My name is Debra Howe, I am related to the Brumbelow's in Georgia. My children are Posey's and Their grandfathers people were from the area of Carrabelle and Saint Marks Fl. We know we have a lot of Irish but have always wondered about certain characteristics we all have. I am seeing a lot of those in my search of the Melungeons. My email is 1mabustback@gmail.com. I would welcome any instruction on finding information. I am 56 and not real knowledgeable of all the ways to search on the internet. Any help you could pass on in how to search would be appriciated. Thank you very much. Debra.
I am so excited to have found this blog. I am a sixth generation Stewart descendant, of Dr. Thomas Stewart and Sarah Drummond. My dad, James W. Stewart, always appeared to me to have had features not associated with a pure European descendant. As I've researched over the past twenty years, I have seen and heard the race referred to as mulatto on various censuses and other published material, but Melungeon is new to me. I know my fourth great grandfather Stewart, Nathaniel, was originally from Dinwiddie/Mecklenburg Counties of North Carolina. Nathaniel, one of the many children of Thomas and Sarah Stewart, either migrated to Lauderdale County, TN or else his son, Samuel Stewart, did. That's where my research becomes mottled. I have no idea, even with all the available data for Thomas and Sarah, along with their many children/spouses, what Nathaniel's wife's name was. Nor do I know the names of his children other than Samuel, and a newly discovered sister named Mary,
Since there is so much information available on Nathaniel's siblings, it's as though Nathaniel disappeared from the face of the Earth; this is why I think he may have migrated to Tennessee. If anyone knows more about this lineage, I would love to hear from you. I have relatives, found through Ancestry, with the last names of Tally, Coleman, Epps, Johnson, Martin, and of course Stewart, spelled as Stuart and Stewart.
