Milton Music(k) jpg

Milton Music is the brother of my 2nd greatgrandfather Abraham Musick. I think this picture of Milton makes him look absolutely Asian!

Abe was a larger man than Milton according to descriptions I have of him. He was a blacksmith, but I must assume that he had a similar look to his brother Milton.

Here is the genealogy for this family going back to the grandmother of these two men who was a Harris, a common Melungeon surname, and for whom I have found no other family data. I am descended from Milton Music's brother Abe Musick and his partner, Mary Collins. I believe that this Collins line is also of Melungeon ancestry as the Harris line may also be.

My brother-in-law is the great-great grandson of Milton Music through his daughter, Manerva Jane (Music) Shell.  I have just recently started helping him with his family tree.  The idea that Milton may be Mulungeon fascinates me!  I agree that the picture you have of him does make him look Asian.  My brother-in-law is checking with his father to see if he has a picture of Milton or other members of Milton's family to compare to your picture.   Thank you for sharing the picture of Milton!

My great grandmother's grandparents were John Musick and Milly Setser. I have been told that John's parents were John W Musick and Isabella Harris, but I have not substantiated this yet. Feel free to contact me at fratercorleonis at gmail dot com if you are interested in helping me solve this matter. I have only recently discovered a possible Melungeon connection and am very interested in finding out more about that. I also have Collins in my family and Sexton as well, both said to be Melungeon family names.

Nancy Sparks Morrison, born April 29, 1938 in Charleston, WV, died Monday, November 25, 2013 after a long illness at Thomas Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late William "Frank" and Evelyn Mayo Sparks who preceded her in death along with her husband Richard Morrison, Sr.
Nancy lived originally in Richmond, Virginia and Roanoke, Virginia before retiring to the Cross lanes community about 7 years ago to be closer to her daughter. She received a BS from West Virginia State College and an MALS degree from the then Hollins College in Hollins, Va. While working on her second MALS degree in Children's Literature and Creative Writing, she became too ill to continue. Nancy took a variety of classes with a stress on science and psychology from many other educational institutions. Her children called her a perpetual student such was her love of learning and teaching.
Nancy is a retired school teacher for the Bedford, Virginia school system with 30 years of service. She taught grades one through seven but loved working with her "gifted" children the most. Not only did she love attending the theatre but was cast in several plays at West Virginia State College and the Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, Virginia. Nancy had a true love for entertaining and cooking and entered many local and national cooking contests of which she was proud to have either placed or won. However, her greatest achievement was as the family genealogist. She spent many years compiling the history of our family, some going back twenty-seven generations, so that we would know where we came from and who we are as a family.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Mike) Mullens of Charleston and son Richard (Pamela) Morrison, Jr. of Plattsburgh, NY. She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Peggy Sparks Hanshaw and husband Allen of Charleston.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 at 1:00pm at Bartlett-Burdette-Cox Funeral Home and will be conducted by a Bishop from the Latter Day Saints Church. Entombment will follow in Graceland Memorial Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home.
